The drama The White-haired Girl has a widespread influence in China. Originating from a folktale, it evolved into various genres including reportage, short story, drama, opera, film, and ballet which is now thought of as a "red classic" . This involving process demonstrates body narration of the characters. In the play, Yang Bailao commits suicide; his daughter Xi' er is taken as payment, is raped, and finally becomes a white-haired goddess. All these actions are related to physical changes. The body is just the superficial meaning of the narration, while its deep meaning refers to the cultural meaning of body narration. In other words, the body is the carrier of power, gender and violence, which reflects the absence of reason and self. It is a metaphor for the special cultural concepts and values in the course of historical development.
