Fantasy literature, a vital part of Belgian literature, incorporates inexplicable fantastic phenomena into an otherwise realist framework, thus prompting readers to reflect on the mystery of human existence. Thomas Owen and Michel de Ghelderode are recognized as two representative authors of Belgian fantasy literature. Their works Non lieu and Brouillard not only fully display the inner mechanics of fantasy literature but also feature one commonality to the extent that they both vividly describe an important role--the mysterious person. This article offers an analysis of the elements of the character of the so-called Mysterious Person by showing its common traits and thus seeks a deeper inquiry into the features and artistic pursuits of fantasy literature.
