Recently, British warships broke into the territorial waters of China's Xisha Islands, once again arousing the concern of the new British government's policy toward China. After Teresa May came to power in July 2016, she adjusted her policy toward China. The new policy is characterized by continuity, duality and balance of major powers. The Sino - British relations under Teresa May government have cooled down to some extent. This adjustment is mainly attributed to the global political environment and Brexit background, stemmed from the need of British diplomacy strategic transformation, and is driven by British new cabinet's internal policy divergences as well as Teresa May's ruling style. In the future, China should further deepen the Sino - British relations and at the same time prepare for the possible changes of the government's policy towards China.
