In The Valley of the Moon, Jack London exposes how the working class suffer severely from exploitation and hypocrisy in the industrialized city, which makes the heroine Saxon realize the city is no longer a place for building harmonious relationships. As a descendant of the Saxon, the natural call for land and country can be easily observed in Saxon who is inclined to be more sensitive to home consciousness than others. In searching the ideal home, the couple are exposed to a country life without over-exploitation or over-dependence , which makes their ideal homeland physically and mentally accessible. The study will focus on the development of the heroin＇s home consciousness and how the home consciousness leads the couple to return to the valley of the moon.
