布鲁斯音乐起源于20世纪初的密西西比河的三角洲地区,又称"蓝调音乐"。它产生在美国南北战争后,是黑人民间传唱的一种演唱形式。布鲁斯音乐是黑人音乐的主流音乐,对流行音乐的发展也起着至关重要的作用。现如今的布鲁斯音乐在不断的演变中逐渐形成了独特的音乐个性,已经融入了世界的主流音乐行列,迅速地发展流传,并且对摇滚乐、爵士乐等其它流行音乐风格产生了重要影响,爵士乐中有一大部分的作品源自布鲁斯音乐,摇滚乐也从布鲁斯音乐中继承了某些特征,现今世界的多种流行音乐风格中随处可见布鲁斯音乐的元素,由此可见布鲁斯音乐在流行音乐中的重要作用。
