A Study on Huang Zun-xian’s Diplomatic Thought from the “Korea Strategy”

当朝鲜面临俄国的侵略危机时,黄遵宪认真思考了朝鲜半岛及其周边国家的社会形势和整个世界的发展形势后写了《朝鲜策略》。《朝鲜策略》的中心论题是防俄,基本内容是亲中国、结日本、联美国和朝鲜自强。这是一篇极有见地的外交策略文书,体现了他的远见卓识的外交思想。由于时代和个人的局限性,黄遵宪的外交思想仍是传统封建外交思想的延续,在处理宗属国问题上没有创新,《朝鲜策略》仍是以夷制夷的翻版和传统封建外交的产物。

Huang Zun-xian presented the “Korea Strategy” after considering the situation of Korean Peninsula and other countries around it and the whole world’s development when Korea faced a crisis. The key point of it is to prevent the invasion of Russia, and the main issues are the reliance on China, the association of Japan, the cooperation with America and the independence of Korea. This is an insightful diplomatic writ reflected his prominent diplomatic thought. With the limitation of the current times as well as himself, he still used the traditional diplomatic thought and couldn’t create the new theory in China- Korea problem. The “Korea Strategy” was still a copy of the notion that “confronting with the antagonists by learning the opponents’ strong points.” It was a product in traditional feudalistic diplomatic.
