In Zhejiang the welded pyroclastic rocks are very characteristic. There are two kinds of welded pyroclastics. One was produced through surficial melting of the pyroclastics-the melt-welding type and another was produced by glutinizing o compaction of the pyroclastics-the compact-welding type. The discrimination between the two types of welded pyroclastic rocks is helpful in clarifying the type of antique volcanic activity which is closely related to mineral exploration.
