There are problems such as restricted sample shipment, long detection period and high local detection cost in the soil geochemical survey carried out in overseas geological pre-survey and general survey prospecting project,while handheld XRF rapid analyzer has the advantages of convenient carrying, simple operation, fast detection speed,and relatively accurate detection effect. The paper described in detail the setting of each parameter handheld XRF rapid analyzer in the testing of soil geochemical samples and compared the results with lab testing results. With operation flowsheet strictly confomled to and reasonable set parameters, the test results are fairly stable and reliable. The application of the handheld XRF rapid analyzer in the prospecting in a copper - cobalt ore district in Democratic Republic of Congo renders consistent results with drilling verification, proving the analyzer capable of reaching the goal of rapid evaluation in overseas geological prospecting.
