During the reign of Duke Xian (676–651 BC) of the Jin State in the Spring-and-Autumn Period, considering the military defense, a fort named Pu Town was built in the northern border zone of the Jin State, and Prince Chong'er was assigned to garrison there for over a decade. Later, because of Li Ji Rebellion, Chong'er fed from Pu Town, and since then the Pu Town vanished from the history of the Jin State. As early as after the Han Dynasty, the location of the Pu Town was unclear; Wei Zhao and Du Yu have given its location in their commentaries to the Spring-and-Autumn Annals, but the insufcient supporting evidence made it even more ambiguous. At present, along with archaeological surveys to the ancient city site and Junzhuang Site in Xixian County, the location of the Pu Town gradually became clear; the large amount of archaeological data with the reference of historical textual materials confrmed that the ancient city site was the seat of the Puzi District of the Han Dynasty, and the Pu Town related to Puzi District was also in the area under the jurisdiction of present-day Xixian County, the location of which might be the Junzhuang Village at the upper reach of Chengchuan River.
