Does FDI Facilitate Institutional Change of Host Countries?:A Research from Term of National Governance Ability

FDI的跨国流动受制于东道国国家治理的影响，反过来也会影响其治理能力。文章从国家治理能力的角度考察了外资进入对东道国的影响。为了克服FDI的内生性，我们根据人口和地理特征构建了工具变量。研究发现，FDI流入的确促进了东道国国家治理能力的提高，这种影响是稳健的，并且在不同维度的国家治理能力上呈现出异质性。文章提供了关于FDI外溢效应的新的跨国经验证据。

Flows of cross - country FDI are partially shaped by institutions, which may also be influenced by FDI. This paper investigates from the perspective of national governance ability FDI＇s impact on the institutional change of host countries. To address the issue of endogeneity, we construct an instrumental variable with cross - country population and geographical information. We find that FDI does have a marked impact on national governance ability of host countries. Further studies show that this result is robust and the effect on different dimensions of national governance ability is heterogeneous. This paper provides new evidence for the spillover effect of FDI inflows.
