“Spatial quantity-physical quantity” category and existential constructions in Mandarin Chinese

本文从"空间量—物量"角度重新刻画汉语的存在构式,将存在构式群视为从动词式到零动词式的连续统,并注意厘清它们与相邻构式的区别,以进一步解释存在构式的理据并整合构式义。本文认为,存在构式倾向于将动词削弱乃至"隐没",以凸显空间量和物量的直接对比,从而刷出"存在感"。

In this paper, a ＂spatial quantity-physical quantity＂ category perspective is taken to depict Chinese existential constructions, which are regarded as a continuumfrom verb constructions to non-verb ones, with special attention to the differences from their neighboring constructions. The motivation of existential constructions is explained and the meaning of the constructions is integrated. Existential constructions tend to ＂gap＂ the verb so as to foreground the implicit comparison between the spatial quantity and the physical quantity, thus presenting their ＂existence＂.
