On Structural Role of Decoration in “Sanyan and Erpai”

“三言二拍”中,以小物件结构全篇的文本可以分为两类:一是《蒋兴哥重会珍珠衫》型,其物件常常具有隐喻性,既起着缀合情节、贯串人物的作用,同时又承担了“隐藏意义”的功能;二是《李公佐巧解梦中言》型,物件是非隐喻的,其本身仅是推动情节发展的要件。

In “Sanyan and Erpai”,the text which is structured through small decorations falls into two types:one shows in Jian Xingge Meets Zhen Zhushan again,whose decorations are always characterized by metaphor,connecting the plots and also undertaking the function of the “implied meaning”;the other presents in Li Gongqiao Interprets Dreams,whose decorations are non-metaphoric,only promoting the development of plots.
