The Discussion about Meaning and Connotation of"The Setting Sun is Really Beautiful but Nightfall is Coming"

唐代诗人李商隐的名诗《登乐游原》的最后两句历来争议颇多。对字面意义的不同理解影响了人们对诗歌内涵的不同解读。在总结了学术界对这两句诗的几种主要观点后,从"只是"一词的意义着手,分析了全唐诗中所有的"只是",总结出了该词在唐代的九个义项。再结合李商隐的生平、经历和思想对诗歌内涵进行分析。

There are many arguments on final two sentences of the famous poem'Mount to The Highland Leyou'written by Li Shang-yin,a poet in Tang dynasty,for many years.Different explanations are affected by dif-ferent understanding for meaning of a word.At first,this paper summarizes several dominating viewpoints about these two sentences in academe.Then,he author summarizes nine meanings of the word'only'by analyzing same words all over'all poems in Tang dynasty'.With three appropriate philological meanings having been confirmed,the author analyses potential connotations by studying Li Shang-yin's life,experience and mentality.
