Cohesion and Coherence in E-C Discourse Translation

衔接与连贯是语篇研究中的两个重要术语。二者既有区别又有联系,好的篇章应该是衔接与连贯的和谐统一。保证译文的衔接与连贯是翻译的基本要求。由于英汉两种语篇在谋篇布局与连接方式上存在差异,因此在翻译过程中,译者应在透彻理解原文的基础上,灵活运用译入语的衔接手段,使译文既衔接紧凑,又达到语义逻辑上的连贯。

Cohesion and coherence are two key terms in discourse research. They are connected and at the same time distinguished. A good piece of discourse should be based on their harmonious unification. It's essentially requi-red to guarantee cohesion and coherence in the target language during the translation practice. Because of individual characteristics in the design,cohesion and coherence between English and Chinese discourse,translators should adopt flexible ways of cohesion in the target language to make the translate version cohesive and coherent on the basis of thorough understanding the source language.
