Over 40 years of Dutch building production has brought about a slow revolution in architecture in the Netherlands. Soft spoken architecture became well-spoken. The graph line has been on a steady incline, regardless of the shocks caused by the financial crash and the Super Dutch storm of conceptual architects. From the small-scale urban renewals of the 1970s up to the present day, there has been a jump in scale. Buildings of all kinds are getting bigger than they ever were before, from train stations to medical centres. The greater use of space runs parallel to the internationalization of doing business and, more importantly, to the development of subtler forms of functionalism. The architectural face of the Netherlands is not defined by Dutch starchitects, though they do contribute. A highly developed community of architects, including the strong momentum of a young generation, has managed to meet and continues to meet the demands.
