On Leisurely Entertaining Style in the Literary Circles during the Transitional Period between Reigns of Emperor Shunzhi and Emperor Kangxi

顺治后期到康熙前期,文坛风尚出现明显的转折。随着清王朝统治的稳固,悲愤兴寄的思潮逐渐消歇,抒写闲情、自娱娱人,渐成文坛主流——通俗文学尤甚。其表现是:无视社会矛盾,以娱乐消闲为旨归;趣味上迎合读者,手法上崇奇尚异,格调上不避浅俗。

During the late reign of Emperor Shunzhi and the early reign of Emperor Kangxi, new features of literary styles began to emerge. With the reign of the Qing dynasty becoming gradually steady, the trend of writing with grief and indignation turned gradually into the leisurely style for entertainment, which developed into the literary mainstream, especially in popular literature, with the features as follows： ignoring the social issues and contradictions, taking entertainment as their purpose, catering to the readers in taste and interests, pursuing odd writing technique and not avoiding the shallow and vulgar.
