《远东报》是哈尔滨地区发行的最早的近代中文报纸,东北学界对其报载小说评价较高。现存《远东报》小说计有334篇,以"玉冰译"的《退伍兵》为界,可分为前后两个时期。此前,《远东报》小说有原创,有转载,少见抄袭,此后则是转载现象仍存,原创数量锐减,抄袭数量猛增,其"集大成者"即为玉冰。这种转载与抄袭现象也存在于《远东报》的其他文学类型中,《远东报》文学成就与价值必须重新加以审视和评估。

Far East Newspaper is the earliest newspaper printed in Chinese language in Harbin in modem China. The novels published in the newspaper are rather highly praised in academic circle in the Northeast area. 334 novels can be found in the newspaper, which are divided into two period marked by the novel Veterans translated by Yubing. In the first period, novel in the newspaper were either original or reprinted, with less plagiarism. In the second period, reprint novels still existed, the original were much less, and the plagiarized were much more. Yubing contributed more for the plagiarized. Reprint and plagiarism can be found in other literary columns of the newspaper. Therefore, the literary achievements and values of Far East Newspaper need to be reexamined and reevaluated.
