“马克思主义时代化”的提法，第一次出现在中共十七届四中全会决定中，这标志着马克思主义时代化命题正式形成。在弘扬、践行实现“中国梦”的社会背景下，马克思主义从当代化到时代化、从学术命题到成为党的指导思想的发展脉络，对推进中国特色社会主义理论体系创新具有重要理论价值和现实意义。马克思主义时代化命题的演进路径，将会伴随马克思主义中国化、大众化延伸到时代发展的各个方面。

Marxism modernization was firstly put forward in the decisions reached at the Fourth Plenary Session of the seventeenth Central Committee, marking the formation of the Marxism modernization. Under the background of carrying forward and practicing the China Dream, the transition from Marxism contemporary transformation to modernization and from the academic proposition to the guiding principle for the party is of both paramount theoretical and practical significance to the advancement of innovating the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This proposition, together with its localization and popularization in China, will take roots in the process of the development of the times.
