Exploration into the Thought of the Traditional “Three Cardinal Principles and Five Constant Virtues”

The Three Cardinal Principles and Five Constant Virtues are the core values of traditional Chinese society, profoundly influeneing the Chinese social development. Conceived in Pre-Qin times, and formulated in the West and East Han Dynasties, they were established through Dong Zhongshu＇s initial elaboration and systematical expounding in the book of Baihutongyi. The thought has in it both positive and negative elements. Therefore, we should creatively transform and develop it with a scientifically dialectical attitude to cultivate its contemporary value.
