The story of beloved continues in Toni Morrison' s Jazz. She becomes Joe' s mother whom Joe has never seen. She is the wild in the woods, representing the outrageous, outlawed, and original female self. As the important semiotie metaphor of the text, her wild and mysterious image reflects Morrison' s idea and writing of the radical black woman.
