Annie Proulx is one of the representatives of the contemporary regional literature in America. His works are usually considered as typical ecological texts. This thesis intends to explore the distinctive strategies applied in That old Ace in the Hole, the juxtaposition of the double narrative clues, the application of the narrative sequence and the semiotic square theory, as well as the construction of typical characters and images.With the application of these ecological narrative strategies, Proulx has constructed the ecological theme in a higher level, thus embodying her social responsibility.
