加拿大英语小说家梅维斯·迦兰在短篇小说《异域之花》中揭露了人与神、人与人、人与物、人与社会的关系的异化。异化的世界中,人们信仰丧失,为物欲所控制、人与人之间变得疏远、人际关系变得物化、社会也剥夺了人的归属感。战争与后工业社会是导致异化的元凶,异化社会中的个人孤独无力,精神上受到压抑,烘托出加拿大文学的"幸存"主题,彰显出迦兰对异化社会的反思、批判与拷问。

Mavis Gallant is a Canadian English writer who has enjoyed a renowned reputation all around the world. The alienations between individuals with god, others, objects and the whole society could be detected in her short story An Alien Flower. In the world of alienation, individuals lost their beliefs in god, but rather were controlled by material concerns.Tthey wre estranged with each other and their relations wre affected by reification.The whole society also deprived one＇s belonging. The war and post-industrial society were the origins of alienations. Hence, people became lonely, feeble and repressed in spirits. “Survival”-the literature theme of Canada was embodied in the description of alienations, manifesting Gallant＇s introspection, criticism and interrogation to the society of alienation.
