12,12-Diethoxy-1-dodecyne is an important intermediate of the insect sex pheromone of the navel orangeworm. The title intermediate was synthesized from 1,10-decanediol via chlorination, PCC oxidation, O-alkylation, alkynylation. The total yield of the four synthetic steps reached 50%. The method had such advantages as cheap and ready available raw materials, short route, and high yield.
