1933年《东方杂志》以"新年的梦想"为题向社会征文,144位参与者的梦想一定程度上反映着他们关于中国建构现代国家的思考。从参与者的人脉网络、学术主张、政治取向来看,这一活动反映了左翼知识人的国家想象。主权在民的现代民族国家原则之下,他们强调民众在未来国家中的地位与意义;在建构未来国家经济体制方面,他们似有"计划经济"、"社会主义"的共同追求,但在建设目标、达及路径方面又有明显分歧;他们基于"反帝"的共同经历定位未来中国与世界,希望超越资本主义的历史阶段,实现"大同世界"成为共识。

The solicit articles about"Dreams of the New Year"in Oriental Magazine expressed the leftwing intellectuals'imagination of state.Based on principles of popular sovereignty,the intellectuals paid more attention to the poor people such as workers and put them to the important positions in the future state.In order to develop economy fast,the intellectuals apparently agreed planned economy and advocated socialism,but what they pursued in constructing the state economical system was different.With the consensus about anti-imperialism,they hoped that capitalism should be transcended in China and the society of great harmony would come in future.
