Cultural Translation Variation in Film Title Translation

海峡两岸及香港地区因电影制度、社会文化、审美习惯及价值取向等方面的不同,电影片名的汉译一直存在差异。本文把2016—2017年在中国内地、台湾地区和香港地区共同上映的114部电影译名建成平行语料库,通过详实的片名语料,分析了片名汉译的"一名多译"现象,从文化适应性的角度论证了"一名多译"现象的本质是共同遵循了文化变译策略,考察了文化变译策略下方言俚语和修辞手段的运用,并对新时期电影片名翻译提出了建议。

Due to the differences in film system, sociocultural diversity, aesthetic preference and value orientation, the translation of film title has always been different among China's Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong region. This paper focuses on the parallel corpus of 114 films that have been released in China's Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong region during 2016-2017. Through the analysis of corpora, this article explores the ＂One film title with several versions＂ phenomenon and further explains the underlying reason for this phenomenon from the perspective of cultural adaptability. Multi-version is the appearance and outcome of the translation process; however, the essence is that different areas just follow the cultural translation variation. Besides, this paper examines the characteristics of dialect and rhetorical devices in film title translation by using cultural translation variation, proposes suggestions for the film title translation in the new era.
