从回译视角探析异化策略在文化传播中的重要作用——以《西游记》第59回两个英译本的比较研究为例

On the importance of foreignization strategy in cultural transmission in the angle of back-translation——based on the comparative study of two translations of the 59thchapter of Journey to the West

回译作为检验翻译质量的重要手段,对翻译理论研究也发挥着重要作用。在文化传播中,以保留源语文化要素为主要目的的异化策略备受关注,而其是否忠实和通顺却引发诸多争议。通过对《西游记》第59回众多译本中两个代表性译本中的实例进行回译,从选词、句式和段落等三个主要层面进行比较研究,剖析归化翻译策略的局限性及异化翻译策略的优势和价值,从而印证异化策略在文化传播中的重要作用。

As an important means of testing the quality of translation,"back-translation"also plays a significant role in the study of translation theories. In cultural transmission,foreignization to keep the cultural elements of the source language is attached to importance. Yet,there are still arguments as to whether it is faithful or smooth enough. Based on the comparative study of back-translation of some examples of two representative versions of the translation to the59 thchapter of Journey to the West,in terms of words,sentences and paragraphs,the disadvantages of domestication are analyzed,and the advantages and value of foreignization are presented. Thus,the importance of foreignization in cultural transmission is confirmed.
