摘要
Euphemism is the substitution of a mild, indirect or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh or blunt. The author first provides readers with a clear view of euphemisms, including the definition, methods of formation and social functions. Then she contrasts Chinese euphemisms and English euphemisms relating to old age, drunkenness, etc. Finally the cultural differences are revealed through the analysis of such euphemisms.
