GEORGE KENNAN'S DIPLOMATIC THINKING

一乔治·凯南(George Frost Kennan),美国著名外交家、苏联问题专家、外交政策评论家和历史学家。凯南被国际关系史和外交史学界称为“遏制之父”,他的一生与美国外交政策的设计、执行、批评和研究一直紧密地联系在一起,对战后美国的外交政策有着极大的影响。他因为发出了著名的长电报而跻身于美国外交的决策核心,因为设计了遏制政策而成为美国外交政策史上最有影响的人物之一。

Containment and detente were not only part of Kennan’s thinking, but were also consistent and mutually complementary. As an expression of realism in international politics, it was in general objective, though there were quite a few flaws. And as a theoretical framework of U.S. diplomacy, it also had significant guiding functions.
