Figure-ground theory derives from psychology and is used to research linguistic structure. It is a basic cognitive principle by which language organizes its concept. The nature of figure-ground reflects the principle that language obeys in time and space. Starting from the basic idea of figure-ground theory, this paper explores how the figure-ground division principle embodies a linguistic space and time event structure through sentences.
