地理信息系统 (GIS)的普及将给城市规划领域带来变化。本文讨论GIS在城市设计中的应用。首先 ,提出了一个采用现有GIS软件的条件下 ,在城市设计过程中应用GIS的框架。然后着重讨论在城市设计方案阶段和公众参与中的GIS应用。三维可视化技术在方案设计过程中可以起到重要的作用。WebGIS和VRML的结合则是城市设计中公众参与的一种有效的途径。

The popularity of GIS will bring some great changes in the field of urban planning. The paper discusses the application of GIS in the processing of urban design. Using off the shelf GIS as an urban design tool kit, a framework for the application of GIS in the processing of urban design is presented. Then it focuses on GIS application in two important issues: the designing process and public participation. 3D visualization can play an important role in the designing process. WebGIS integrated with VRML is an effective way of public participation in urban design.
