论英国哥特小说的形成与发展

The Formation and Development of English Gothic Novels

英美文学中存在着一个影响广泛、持续发展的哥特传统,英国哥特小说最早产生于17世纪后半期,作为一个流派真正产生重大影响并形成高潮,是在18世纪90年代到19世纪初。哥特小说对英国文学创作产生了巨大的影响,本文简要阐释哥特小说形成于英国的原因和背景,论述其历经19世纪和20世纪的发展,及在现当代的再度繁荣。

The Gothic tradition has an extensive influence on English American literature. The Gothic novel as an English literary genre, can be said to have been born in the second half of the 18th century,and took shape mostly in England from 1790 to 1830 and falls within the category of Romantic literature. The heyday of the Gothic romance covered the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. This paper tries to make a survey of the Gothic tradition in English novels and explain the historical formation and development of the Gothic,furthermore, it introduces the re-blooming of Gothic novels in nowadays.
