The Main Characteristics of Marginal Basins in the Western Pacific and Discussion of a Formative Mechanism

太平洋西缘分布着一系列边缘海盆。这些边缘海盆形态各异 ,构造多变 ,是地球上独特的构造—地貌单元。通过分析边缘海盆的地质和地球物理特征 ,并从地幔运动引起的地质作用出发 ,提出西太平洋边缘海盆是由地幔向东的蠕散和流动促使地壳拉张。

There exist a series of marginal basins in the Western Pacific. These basins are characterized by geological processes and varied tectonic deformation. Geological and geophysical characteristics are analysed comprehensively in this paper. Based on the recognition that geological affect caused by the mantle movement, we give a model of the formation and evolution of the Western Pacific, namely, these basins result from the mantle creeping or flowing to the east that makes the crusts of marginal basins in Asian continental margin extend,thin, and rift.
