伍尔夫是女权主义批评的先驱 ,她的长篇论文《一间自己的房间》最早在文学领域展开了对父权文化的清算。她批评父权制文化对女性的压抑 ,肯定被父权社会拒绝的女性文学传统的存在 ,为女性写作找到了一个历史支撑点。她提出的女性作家应在不忽略自己性别特色的前提下努力达到双性写作佳境的观念 ,显较后来排斥男性的女权主义批评家更有借鉴意义。
