语言作为信息交流的工具 ,自然可以表露和显示使用者的自我 ,但同时却又是掩藏真实意图的极佳方式 ,被动句就是这种方式中突出的一种。通过对英语新闻的实例分析 ,本文探索了被动态的几种语用功能 ,即削弱和突出、暗示。

The use of language as one of the media of communication naturally expresses and reveals the true ego of the user, whereas at the same time it is also a perfect means to conceal and masquerade the user's authentic feelings. Passive structures are one typical example of this exploitation. English news items are cited to explore the pragmatic functions of the passive voice: foregrounding and backgrounding, hinting, evasion and ambiguity.
