为了时代和人民的需要而进行学术研究 ,是著名的马克思主义理论家、哲学家和史学家胡绳治学精神最突出、最精粹之所在。主要表现为下述四个方面的特点 :( 1 )关注现实 ,与时俱进。一切从发展变化着的时代、形势和实际情况出发。 ( 2 )独立思考 ,不断创新。胡绳既是努力营造学术自由空间的学界领导者 ,也是一位在自己的学术研究中独立思考、不断创新的学者。 ( 3 )信念坚定 ,但不僵化。胡绳真诚地信仰马克思主义 ,但绝不盲从 ,主要是学习马克思主义的立场、观点和方法。 ( 4)逻辑严密 ,说理透彻。这是由于胡绳哲学家的素养、长期学术论辩的锻炼。

Doing scholarly research for the time and people's sake is the most striking and essential quality of Mr.Hu Sheng, an outstanding theorist of Marxism, Philosopher and historian. His spirit can be found a good expression in the following: 1) Focusing on the reality and keeping pace with the time. All of his researches proceeded from the actual situation of the changing time. 2) Developing his own style of thinking and striving for originality. Hu Sheng was not only a scholarly leader advocating academic freedom, but a scholar who developed his own style of thinking and strived for originality in his field of study. 3) Retaining his belief, but never becoming rigid Hu Sheng held a firm belief in but never blindly followed Marxism, from which he mainly learned its standpoint, viewpoint and method. 4) Reasoning logically and arguing incisively. Such is Mr. Hu Sheng's quality as a philosopher, a realm attainable only by those who have engaged themselves in the long-term scholarly argument and who have developed a conscientious attitude in their scholarly research. In addition, Mr. Hu's theoretical study and practice about scholarly criticism have provided us with great illumination.
