偶然与巧合——哈代小说生命意识再解读

Behind Contingency and Coincidence --Re-decoding the Life Awareness in Hardy's Novels

生活中的偶然与巧合往往给个体带来幸福或苦难 ,甚至改变个体一生的命运。哈代小说中人物命运因偶然、巧合或闪光或暗淡 ,或永恒或消弥。其背后究竟隐藏着什么规律 ,显现出何种命运观呢 ?本文试图以此为切口来探讨哈代小说的生命意识以及他笔下所观照的人物命运的内涵。可以发现 ,从偶然与巧合事件背后辐射出一股强烈的现代生命意识流 :交替变化的双线式生存状态、忧患意识、不安现状、放纵张扬、不再绝望等待、主动出击等等 ;而对传统生命意识却作了无情的颠覆与解构。

Contingent and coincident events in life often result in either happiness or misery for individuals,or even a complete change in their fate.Because of contingency and coincidence,the life of the characters in Hardy's novels is destined to be shining or obscured,everlasting or withering.In an attempt to decode the regular pattern of the plot as well as the attitude towards the fate,the author presents a discussion on the life awareness and the connotation of the characters' fate which are contained in Hardy's works.It is obvious,the author believes,that the accidental and coincidental events reflect a vigorous stream of modern life consciousness illustrated by details such as an interchangeable bilinear state of living,awareness of adversity,dissatisfaction with present situation,indulgence and publicity,overcoming despair and hesitation,and aggressiveness.In contrast to this,the traditional life awareness is severely overthrown and smashed.
