Analysis on the Proposition of Ancient Surname Originating from Totem

“图腾说”一直是解释中国古姓起源的最有影响的观点，本文旨在说明图腾只是古姓起源方式的一种，“感生”的传说并不能证明姓起源于图腾。图腾崇拜的影响有一定时代限制，其所发挥作用的程度也很有限，对于图腾在古起源中的意义应当有个正确地认识，不应盲从盲信，过分夸大它的作用。

The proposition of originating from totem is the most influential opinion on ex-plaining the origins of Chinese ancient surnames. Drawing supports from historical documents and ethnological material, this thesis has proved that the influence of totem was restricted by spe-cific historical stage, the effects was limited on some degree, so we should tade a right view on the effects of totem in the originating of ancient surnames instead of misbelieves and overstating that.
