社会存在是一种具有人的社会规定性的具体物质存在 ,彻底的唯物主义及其实事求是的思想方法 ,是我们科学把握这一概念的理论前提和方法。此外 ,从发生学的角度讲 ,社会存在是人的自然生成过程和社会历史过程交互作用的产物 ,是人的生产生活方式及由这些活动所利用的各种物质手段和所生产的产品、所形成的人的各种交往形式和关系 ;从整体论的角度讲 ,社会存在是整个社会有机体有机联系的现实存在和运动。

Social existence is the concrete material existence with the social prescriptive feature of human beings. Complete materialism and the thought of being practical and realistic are the theoretical premise and method of understanding this concept scientifically. Apart from this, from the perspective of its formation social existence is not merely the product of the interaction between mankind's natural evolution and social history, but also man's living or production style and various material means or products concerned, plus various communicative activities and relations. From the angle of holistic theory, social existence is the realistic existence and movement that reflects the organic relations of social organism.
