Considering the features of major permanent M & E equipment for the left powerhouse at the Three Gorges Project, the conditions of major transfer points and lifting, as well as the communications access to the dam site, it has been considered that the waterway could be the best transport line for the major equipment, such as runners, main transformers, girders of bridge cranes, and so on, based on the analyses of various transport schemes. In transport organization work, the Owner has selected by the competitive bidding the transport contractors, developed the equipment transport information system and carried out the study on transport of major and special equipment and components, in order to ensure the equipment can be transported safely to the site.
