Abstract Generalized semi Markov processes can model discrete event dynamic systems. This paper first introduces the model framework of generalized semi Markov processes, then surveys the problems of existence, uniqueness, insensitivity of the stationary distribution and the problem of weak convergence in generalized semi Markov processes and the relationship with the other models and methods in discrete event dynamic system.
