In opium trade with China, the U.S and U.K carried out different policies, which led to different results. In the Chinese struggle of anti-British and the ban on opium-smoking and the opium trade, the government of the United States made a comparatively advisable move. The American merchants in Guangzhou were comparatively harmonious, editors of《Macao Monthly》were comparatively friendly. All these won the consent of the Qing goverment and a good impression on the Chinese people. In 1844,the American government gained a lot of special rights and interests from《Wang Sha Treaty》,but most of the Americans in China were not aggressors, and the harmonious relationship between the people of the two countries was safeguarded. The people of Guandong province directed the spearhead at the British agressors, who found themselves in a insolated position.
