The effect of liming 4 red soils developed from Quaternary red clay and red sandstone on the cadmiumforms and its toxicity were investigated. Liming the acid red soils could greatly reduce Cd toxicity to plantsbecause the soluble Cd and organic Cd in the soils decreased significantly while Cd bound to minerals/oxidesand residual Cd increased markedly with increasing lime rates (pH).
