Abstract Abundant bivalve fossils Ptychopteria(Actinopteria) were recognized by the authors for the first time in the Ganxi Formation in the Hongkou Village and the lower part of the Guanwushan Formation in the Jinfeng Village,Dujiangyanshi,as well as in the lower part of the Ganxi Formation in Pingyipu,Pingwu,Sichuan. These fossils are classified as six genus and fifteen species. The present paper deals with the distribution and features of these bivalve fossils, and give a more detailed description of five new species ,i.e.? Phthonia sichuanensis, Glossites (G.)longes,Ptychopteria(Actinopteria)pingwunensis,P.(A.) pingyipunensis and Tanaodon gigas. The results in this study have, beyond doubt, improved our knowledge of biostratigraphy in the study area, and also provided reliable provements for the stratigraphic division and correlation.
