In the annotations of classical canons Gao You cited dialects for eighty-four times as proof.There appeared twenty-five different names of places concerning areas of Chu Huai,You Ji,Qing Yan and Zhou Qin.These materials including the meaning and sounds of various regional dialects are of great significance to the research of modern dialects.Therefore he must be given a proper position the history of dialectology.
