A Study of the Chief Princes (Fangbo) of the Western Zhou Dynasty

方伯是一方诸侯之长,拥有部分对其控制地区小诸侯的政治统治权。西周存在方伯这种介于天子与诸侯之间的地方势力类型,由于方伯的存在,天子与诸侯的统治关系被部分阻隔。方伯的存在对西周的政治制度有重要影响,关系到西周中央权力对地方控制的实际程度。西周方伯主要有周初的"三监"、齐、鲁、卫、楚、徐等。

The chief princes (Fangbo) were the leaders of the prince regional. They owned part of political dominant power over the small chief princes within their contronlling areas. There existed such type of local power between the princes and the King in the Western Zhou Dynasty. Because of the chief princes, the political relationship between the princes and the King was partly separated. The academic circles did little research about the issues of chief princes in the past. The importance of the chief princes becomes an unavoidably important topic in the research of the Western Zhou Dynasty through the research of the following aspects as the research conditions?the position?the appearance?main chief princes and political characters of the Western Zhou Dynasty.
