Since middle age merchant have been active participant in poor relief and private charity, especially in early modern England. Contrary to the charity of middle age, their charity appears more socialized, diversified and extensive. All of these not only illuminated the transformation from traditional philanthropy to modern social welfare, but also mirrored the circumferences of the growing business group.
