Relativity is the true nature of politeness, which reveals itself in various ways. This paper deals with the relativity of politeness from three aspects:formal politeness and actual politeness;politeness and cultural factors;politeness and social factors. The paper also analyses the enlightenment of the relativity of politeness on foreign language teaching and emphasizes in the importance of the actual politeness of the teachers' talk and the development of their pragmatic abilities.
