围棋起源新证

New Textual Research for the Origin of Weiqi

学术界都把先秦文献中的“弈”看作围棋 ,因此把围棋的起源确定在先秦时代。其实先秦古籍所记载的四条“弈”字资料 ,在先秦多作动词下棋讲 ,或指博棋 ,非指围棋。可靠的围棋史料出现在西汉晚期 ,考古所见的围棋实物资料出现在东汉晚期。

Chinese character'弈'recorded in the documents in Pre Qin Dynasty was regarded as Weiqi in academic circles, so the time for the origin of Weiqi was set in the period of Pre Qin Dynasty. In the paper,the new idea is put forward: the four pieces of material about the character'弈'recorded in the ancient books in Pre Qin Dynasty shows that the character was used as the verd, meaning playing chess or gambling, it didnt mean Weiqi. The reliable historical materials about Weiqi appeared in late Western Han, whereas the material object of it founded through archaeology appeared in late Eastern Han. Thus Weiqi should be originated and come into being in the period of Qin Dynasty.
