GAO Shiqi and his Collection

高士奇在康熙年间可以算得是个奇人,他以觅馆糊口之穷儒,忽为百万之富翁,身居高位十余年,侧身翰院,身跻雅流,交游甚广,上至王公大臣,下至贩夫走卒,三教九流中都有他的朋友。家中豪富,杂书读得极多,寻风水、测字、看相、把脉,无所不通,对于书画鉴定与收藏,更是行家里手。关于他的书画赏鉴传闻如同他的人生际遇一般,充满了传奇色彩。

GAO Shiqi was a marvelous scholar during the reign of Kangxi Emperor of Qing Dynasty.Originally a poor scholar,he turned a millionaire almost overnight,and was in such a senior position as the Grand Minister of State (equivalent to the prime minister)for 10 years.He was one of the much respected Hanlin academicians,and climbed into the upper echelon quickly.He associated extensively,making friends from every social walks,from the aristocrats and officials to street venders and common people.
