英语中“国家”一词的产生及其形成的轨迹与英国民族融合的道路紧密相连。从“王国”(realm)词义到“国家”(state)词义的转变是英国宪政史上最有意义的变化之一。英国民族国家的理念在莫尔、霍布斯、洛克等思想家的强化之下得到了进一步的深化。

The appearance of the English word'state' and the changing of its connotations are closely connected with the fusion of the English people. The change of the connotations of'state' from 'realm' to 'state' is one of the most significant turns during the history of English constitutionalism. And the ideal of English National-state had been greatly reinforced by these great thinkers such as Thomas More, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke.
